FILSON 1897: THE AMERICAN OUTDOOR AND WORKWEAR HERITAGE BRAND

At the foundation of every successful brand stands one key word: authenticity. And this is even more true for outdoor brands, whose strength lies precisely in their history and personality. In this, Filson is definitely a benchmark. A great classic of American workwear, Filson was born in 1897, during the years of the legendary Klondike Gold Rush, when clothing was not a matter of choice, but of survival. Precisely because of this unique personality, Filson was one of the first brands to be distributed by WP Lavori In Corso, since 1986, and will now be featured in the new chapter of WP Stories during which Alex Carleton, the brand's creative director, will explore WP's archives recounting the different stages of the long partnership between the two - a friendship that has lasted a full 36 years-and will let us in on the unique composition and processing techniques that give the brand's garments their legendary longevity.
Filson is a brand whose roots are deep in American myth; it is said that even Hemingway wore Filson's clothing during his legendary safaris in Africa. The brand was known to have been born during the years of the Gold Rush, when seekers from around the world migrated to the Yukon, ready to brave the harsh climate and rugged mountainous terrain of the region to find their fortunes. It was here that Clinton C. Filson began, in 1897, to design his Mackinaw woolen garments and sturdy boots to meet the demand for durable workwear and warm apparel to survive the frigid northern winters. Clinton C. Filson had a very good hunch: right from the start the brand was loved and appreciated by workers and explorers, coming to know a truly huge success, until it became a true icon of Made in USA clothing. The brand's fame continued throughout the 1900s as Filson began to expand worldwide. As early as the 1960s, the founder's original artisan workshop had become a staple of the American outdoors and around the world. The name "Filson" soon became synonymous with frontier aesthetics, quality, and imagery that remains linked, today as then, to the brand's original vocation and the values of American craftsmanship. Today, the brand produces complete total looks that, in addition to classic workwear items such as jackets and pants, also include items for outdoor sports as well as accessories, including Filson's iconic tote bag, and garment care products. Over the years, the brand has also expanded and refined its lifestyle offerings on the cultural level, including in its portfolio the project "The Filson Journal," an online magazine where to discuss and learn more about everything related to the outdoor lifestyle.
